COMPIS is responsible for elaborating and monitoring the implementation of policies, indicating the priorities concerning diagnoses, evaluations and management actions, providing technical support and offering subsidies for decision making involving Intellectual Property matters in health, including regarding applications for priority exams within the INPI. Besides, the Commission will work with the Interministerial Group on Intellectual Property (GIPI), encourage studies, debates, events and public consultations on the subject, and participate in the activities of national and international forums related to the matter.

GAPIS has the central task of prospecting and identifying patent applications for pharmaceutical products and processes, especially those that are considered strategic for public health policies, in order to provide subsidies for decision making by the Ministry of Health and also for COMPIS activities.
