News | Google hands over private data to Brazilian Senate Commision

23/04/2008

“This is a historic moment,” said this Wednesday (23) the chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of Investigation (CPI) of pedophilia, Senator Magno Malta, after receiving from the Communications Director for Google Brazil, Felix Ximenes, data from 3,261 private profiles of Orkut suspected of containing pedophile material. The request for the breach of confidentiality of the pages had been approved at the beginning of the month by members of the CPI.

When classifying the delivery of this information by Google as “an unprecedented fact in the world,” the rapporteur of the CPI, Senator Demosthenes Torres, stated that the data will be reviewed by federal prosecutors and the Federal Police and may lead to the identification of up to 200 pedophiles who use the Internet for recruitment of minors.

Among the data delivered to the CPI, are information access for users of Orkut and images of private albums, to which access is only allowed to the page owner or persons authorized by him.
